Dental Implants

Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. Patients with dental implants can smile with confidence.

Are You a Candidate for Implants?

If you are considering implants, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If your mouth is not ideal for implants, ways of improving outcome, such as periodontal treatment or bone grafting, may be recommended. The aim of dental implant treatment is not “getting implants” but having an attractive, functional long lasting set of teeth. To get the best result possible a team approach is important which may include prosthodontists, orthodontists, endodontists as well as your general dentist and hygienist.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is essentially a titanium post which is placed into your jaw bone. The very special feature of dental implants are their ability to intergrate or fuse with the jaw bone. It is this ability which makes them long lasting and very stable. Once the implant has fused with the jaw bone the tooth (implant crown) can be constructed. Generally, this is directly screwed into the implant.

Implants can be used to replace single teeth or multiple implants can be linked together to provide reconstruction of bigger spaces.
